The first thing to look at before buying a budget printer is the price of the printer ink cartridges. Understandable most people assume that the cheaper the printer the cheaper the printer cartridges, but this is not the case. Epson S21 ink cartridges cost the same as a lot of Epson mid range printers because it uses the same cartridges as them so therefore cost the same to run. The Epson S21 is not to bad it terms of running cost as it uses separate ink cartridges which can be changed individually cartridges which can be changed independently when each colour runs out. There are also compatible ink cartridges available for the S21 which cost considerable less than the OEM inks. First impressions of the Stylus S21 are good, the build quality is excellent which is a pleasant surprise from what has become the norm for budget printers, its very easy to install and takes just a few minutes thanks to its plug and play compatibility with a variety of operating systems including the latest Windows Vista. When you start printing with the S21 the first thing you notice is that it’s a bit noisy, and also it quite slow. Although it can print photos they take a awfully long time to print, a 6×4 prints takes over five minutes! Text printing is just a bad with a maximum speed of 7 pages per minute in draft mode and 2 ppm in standard quality mode. The quality of print however is great the text is sharp and the photos have vivid colour tones. The S21 can print on variety of media including photo paper, envelopes and inkjet transparencies.
